The city of Los Angeles as early as Wednesday could lift its strict law requiring people to show proof of vaccination before entering indoor restaurants, gyms and other establishments.

LOS ANGELES — Another 17 COVID-19 deaths were registered by Los Angeles County on Tuesday, March 22, along with 429 new cases.

The rolling average daily rate of people testing positive for the virus was 0.7% as of Tuesday, up from 0.6% on Monday. Los Angeles County will align with the state next month and lift the requirement that attendees of indoor mega-events such as sporting events or concerts show proof of COVID vaccination or a negative test.

Despite the easing of such restrictions, county health officials continue to urge precautionary steps against virus spread, noting that the BA.2 subvariant of COVID-19 is slowly beginning to expand locally, and will likely gain a stronger foothold in the county, mirroring the pattern seen overseas and in some East Coast cities.
