It shouldn’t have taken a four-time champion core this long, but the Warriors finally figured out that this series is little more than a game of attrition. And when the series is viewed in that light, the Warriors have a massive advantage going into Game 6.Anthony Davis took a seemingly innocuous hit to the head in Game 5 and needed a wheelchair to reach the locker room.I think back to a stretch late in the second quarter — when the Warriors opened up what proved to be the winning margin — showed the toll this series has already taken on the Lakers’ two stars.
Another Lakers miss and a Steph 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer and you had a gassed Lakers team going into halftime, wondering what just happened. The Warriors expanded their lead and coasted the remainder of the contest — but not before forcing James to play 39 hard minutes and chasing Davis from the game with a head injury.
LA was blitzed. The Warriors went right after the Lakers’ top duo in Game 5. They’ll do it again in Game 6 and Game 7, too.
