KOSHAN: Maple Leafs, who don't lose two in a row often, will need a tightening against Avalanche Via koshtorontosun
A 2-0 lead early in the second period should have put the Leafs in the driver’s seat, but instead, they got run over in the defensive zone and would have been out of the game if not for the play of goalie Matt Murray for the rest of the period. It caught up to the Leafs in the final 20 minutes, when the Sabres scored three goals and made the last one stand up as the winner.
The Avs are finding their way following a three-game losing streak. They’ve won three of their past four games, including an 8-4 drubbing of the Canadiens in Montreal on Monday. Though Colorado is battling to stay in the top three in the Central Division, a playoff spot isn’t in doubt. The Avs will have to make up for the loss of Artturi Lehkonen, who is fourth in team scoring, after the forward broke a finger versus the Canadiens.
