FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - Brooks Koepka had his overnight lead cut almost in half, but still hand a handy four-shot cushion over fellow American Dustin Johnson halfway through the final round of the PGA Championship on Sunday.
One bogey and one birdie on the front nine left him as he started the day at 12 under par as he made the turn, with Johnson his only realistic threat. Koepka’s seven-shot lead starting the day did not last long, as he bogeyed the par-four first, where he found deep rough with his drive. Koepka steadied with a two-putt birdie at the par-five fourth, the easiest hole on the course, and then parred to the turn, still the overwhelming favorite to claim the Wanamaker Trophy, but not far enough ahead to allow the engraver to get to work.
