Tyler Tardi is a new name in Alberta curling circles.
For now, however, he’s with Koe, chasing history — a much-talked about fifth Brier triumph would stand the veteran skip alone on top of all other national kings before him — at Budweiser Gardens in London, Ont., where the Alberta champs representing Calgary’s Glencoe Club are rocking the house.
They follow Tuesday with games against Newfoundland and Labrador’s Nathan Young early and Nunavut’s Jake Higgs in the late draw . “I know I’m a bit of a rink rat,” Tardi said. “So maybe that plays a little bit of a part in it that I’m always wanting to go to the rink and maybe somebody who’s a little older maybe doesn’t have the energy that I do to do that.”“I think when I was back skipping in juniors, I called a bit of a non-traditional game. Kevin kind of does, as well, so maybe that’s a part of why he wanted me on the team with him, because the way I view the game is a little bit different.
But true to his Koe’s view on him, Tardi settled in quickly in the face of joining a veteran team with a combined seven Brier titles.
