In some cases, the disorder causes the ovaries to develop small collections of fluid and fail to regularly release eggs. To cope with the diagnosis, Rodriguez decided to set an ambitious goal: train for a half marathon.
To treat the symptoms, Rodriguez started seeing a chiropractor who ended up inspiring her career path. “[Running] became a powerful thing because everybody kind of questioned me at the moment,” she said. “Nobody understood why I was doing the half marathon, especially when I never ran track or was never a runner. I used to say that I used to jog because I was so slow. And in P.E. I hated it because I struggled. I was always the chubby girl. I was always at the back of the line finishing my miles. That's why I didn't enjoy running back in the day. Now, it’s like a part of me.
