Fans are invited to vote for their favorite films in each age group. This award, called “The Nikki,” is named in honor of Nikki Delamotte, our highly respected and beloved colleague.
in 2017 when he was a seventh-grader at Hawken School. The event, held in its pre-COVID years at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, served a dual purpose. It was a way to honor his grandmother Jacqueline Bercu, who had Parkinson’s disease, by raising money for the Michael J. Fox Foundation. At the same time, it provided young filmmakers like him a platform to showcase their work.
“First off, we want to continue to raise money for the Michael J. Fox Foundation to help find a cure for Parkinson’s,” said Levine, whose grandmother lost her battle with the disease in 2021. To date, the event has raised $330,000 for the foundation. Heading into its seventh year, the festival will be held online Friday, April 28. Levine said he has received more than 100 submissions from young filmmakers ages 8 to 18 all over the world.
Top prizes worth $300 are awarded to the best films in three categories across three age groups. This year’s panel of judges includes film producer Todd Lieberman , TV director Marc Buckland and NBC News producer Aaron Brownlee .
