Mechanical keyboards are so popular right now. This model from Keychron is wireless and has hot swappable key switches and LED backlights. It's a highly satisfying typing experience that's slightly addictive.

One of the most popular mechanical keyboards is the excellent Keychron K2 75% ANSI model. This 84-key compact keyboard has all the usual function keys from F1 to F12, but those keys can also be used as macOS multimedia keys. The K2 can connect with up to three separate devices so that the user can easily switch from using it with a desktop computer to typing on an Android tablet. As well as the wireless option, there’s also a USB-C port for wired use.

The ability to customize mechanical keyboards has resulted in a booming trade in customizable keyboards where keycaps can be changed and even the mechanical switches under the keys can be hot-swapped for different types of switches. The latest Keychron K2 V2 can use virtually any MX-style 3- or 5-pin switches from makers like Cherry, Kailh or Gateron. Keychron even lets you decide which switch type you’d like when you order your K2 keyboard.

The keyboard can be used wirelessly or with a USB cable.Another advantage of a mechanical switch keyboard is the longevity of the switches. The keyboard should be good for up to 50 million key presses before those switches need replacing.

The keyboard has a massive 4,000 mAh rechargeable and built-in lithium-polymer battery to power the backlights and the Bluetooth wireless mode. A single charge via a USB-C cable can last for weeks with the LEDs turned off. With the LEDs turned on, the battery may last for around a week. It all depends on how much you use the keyboard. There’s a built-in power saving feature that turns the LEDs off after 10 minutes without use and the backlight can be set at four different levels.
