Clarkson sang the song true to its form and had her backing band Y'all keep the instrumentation similar to the original. To make the cover her own, Clarkson peppered in lofty vocal runs and high notes for added persona and flair. "Marry him or marry me/ I'm the one that loves you baby can't you see? /I ain't got no future or a family tree," Clarkson jubilantly sang in the chorus."But I know what a prince and lover ought to be/ I know what a prince and lover ought to be."
