Kevin MacLeod, the Queen\u0027s former secretary in Canada, talks about the coronation — when 60% of Canadians oppose recognizing Charles as King.

As Queen Elizabeth’s personal secretary in Canada, MacLeod was responsible for organizing tours by members of the Royal family. And though he wasn’t invited to Charles’s coronation, he says he will be “glued to the TV” for the ceremony.

MacLeod has more confidence, citing Charles’s long-term commitment to the environment and the importance of preserving aboriginal languages. “Certainly there is a changing of gears,” MacLeod added. “It’s hard to envision a world without the Queen. She was one of the constants in life. It’s a watershed in that we have to adapt to something new. But as I said before, this is not the Crown’s first rodeo. It’s had to deal with great changes in the past.”Article content“The UK was coming out of rationing from the Second World War.

It’s why it would be difficult — and MacLeod thinks, a mistake — to do away with the King and make the governor general head of state.
