An alligator was spotted by kayakers on a Pa. river over the weekend, and an official said it likely would not survive the winter.
An alligator, similar to this one that was pulled from the Lehigh Canal in Allentown in 2016, was spotted by kayakers swimming in the Kiski River in western Pennsylvania. Authorities say it was probably a pet that was released. “It was on the shore, then it moved into the water,” kayaker Mark Tanis told the Trib. “We obviously don’t see this on the Kiski.” “We’re aware of the report but the is not responsible for non-native species, but we do our best to assist with these calls,” Fish and Boat Commission communications director Mark Parker told the Trib.
It would be “extremely unlikely” that the alligator could survive a Pennsylvania winter, Park told the Trib.
