But besides the belt, this weekend will settle a long-standing rivalry between both fighters that goes back years.and his brother Jose approached Plant and his trainer in the gym, taking issue with comments made on social media. A fight broke out and tension has existed ever since, with both men taking aim at each other in public interviews and on social media.In 2019, Plant reacted to Benavidez’s win over Anthony Dirrell – which he won by KO – by tweeting: “Is this the ** who’s supposed to beat me up?”
The American’s post was put directly to Benavidez on Fox Sports by host Abdo – and the Mexican’s response had the potential to offend more than just Plant. He said: “This guy [Plant] just tweets every day. He’s like a woman on Twitter. I don’t pay too much attention to it.”
