In a stunning new homage cover art from artist Rafal Sarmento starring the Justice League, the team conjures up the return of the Justice Society of America.
A classic Justice Society of America and the Justice League comic cover art is getting a brand new homage ahead of DC Dark Crisis that brings back Earth-Two's mightiest heroes. In recently revealed DC Comics art from Rafal Sarmento, an iconic cover starring the JSA and Justice League is remade, with Mike Sekowsky and Murphy Anderson's 1963 art for Justice League of America #21 getting a fresh modern update as a new crisis begins in the DC Universe.
The Justice Society of America debuted as DC's first superteam more than 80 years ago in All-Star Comics #3 by Gardner Fox, Everett E. Hibbard, and Sheldon Mayer. The JSA, whose original Golden Age members included Flash, Spectre, Hawkman, Red Tornado, Hourman, Sandman, Doctor Fate, Atom, Alan Scott's Green Lantern, and Jay Garrick's Flash, would later expand, to also include the likes of Doctor Mid-Nite, Hawkman, Sandman, and Black Canary.
While there's no official word if the JSA will play a role, if any, in the upcoming event, it would make sense for the superteam to reappear in Dark Crisis. With the Justice League dead, Earth could use some new, experienced heroes taking on leadership roles in their absence. The Earth-Two heroes could be the perfect temporary replacement for the Justice League until they figure out how to bring Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and the rest of the team back to life.
Regardless of whether the JSA makes their long-awaited return in Dark Crisis, seeing the classic Justice League art get a great homage variant cover art is awesome. Hopefully, it's a hint at what's to come, as the Justice Society of America would be a perfect stand-in for the Justice League as the Dark Crisis begins. Dark Crisis #2 by DC Comics by Joshua Williamson, Daniel Sampere, and Alejandro Sanchez is in comic book stores on July 5th.
