Jury selection began Monday for APD Officer Christopher Taylor, charged with the 2020 murder of Mike Ramos, amid concerns on juror safety and community tensions. After nine hours on Monday, a jury has been selected for Austin Police Officer Christopher Taylor's murder trial. He'sTwelve jurors and four alternates have been selected for this trial.
According to police, in April of 2020 someone called 911 to report an individual with a gun doing drugs in an apartment complex parking lot. Video from Austin Police shows officers confronting Mike Ramos but when he attempted to flee he was shot and killed. According to the police investigation, Ramos was not armed.
"Because so many people feel so strongly there will be some people that want to be on the jury and they may hide their true feelings because they're partisan in nature, and then you maybe end up with a mistrial down the road," said Muery."This trial is long overdue. It has been over three years since Officer Taylor shot and killed my son. Mike was the sweetest person. He made everyone laugh. And he was such a loving son. I miss him every day.
More than a dozen jurors expressed concerns about their own safety and what the court would do if they were harassed during or after a high-profile trial.
