The 14th Annual Juneteenth NYC Festival came to a close Sunday with a party in Prospect Park. TVJessi shows us how organizers of the three-day event honored fathers and freedom.
A parade of proud fathers led the way from Grand Army Plaza, showing the strength to show up in their children's lives.
Sponsors delivered meals for the dads in appreciation, allowing them to enjoy the holiday weekend worry-free. Organizers want them to feel safe and seen, in a world that often offers otherwise, more than 150 years since slavery ended. "I want us to be able to change the narrative about ourselves that we have in our mind, because we are not the slavery that we came from," Rodney said."We're better than that."
