For the second time in as many outings, the team’s Canadian closer, Jordan Romano, was rocked, sending his team to a gutting loss. A two-run homer by catcher Austin Wells in the top of the ninth was all the scoring required as the playing-out-the-string Yankees scored a 2-0 win. The Jays’ offence — laborious so often this season — didn’t help matters as they were held to just three hits on the night and blanked, first by starter Michael King and then by the bullpen. The latter of those came on a one-out single from Matt Chapman in the bottom of the ninth, but when Brandon Belt and Daulton Varsho couldn’t bring the third baseman home, that was that.
