The Packers have to decide how to tactfully handle a marriage that, despite the best intentions, appears to have run its course. And the answer is simple for ByMikeJones: Play Jordan Love over Aaron Rodgers.
Things seemingly reached a low point Sunday night when Rodgers found it impossible to play through the pain of the rib and/or thumb injury and left the game early in the fourth quarter. Shortly after, doctors checked to make sure Rodgers didn’t have a punctured lung, he said.
This isn’t to say that Love — the Packers’ surprise 2020 first-round pick — will lead Green Bay back into the thick of the playoff race. The younger, more mobile quarterback may, however, help restore a degree of effectiveness and creativity to Matt LaFleur’s offense. More importantly, Love can help answer a pressing question for the Packers’ front office.
Rodgers was once the young quarterback waiting in the wings, who capitalized on an injury-relief cameo in 2007 and essentially shoved Brett Favre out the door the next offseason.
