In his first in-person media availability since the World Cup, CanMNT coach John Herdman addressed the continued tumult with Canada Soccer. “It should be different.” More details from joshuakloke:

Canada’s men’s national team coach John Herdman addressed the continued tumult with Canada Soccer on Monday in his first in-person media availability since the 2022 World Cup, saying he was “really frustrated” to hear women’s national team star Christine Sinclair stating that former Canada Soccer president Nick Bontis called her demands for a new CBA “b—-ing.” BontisHerdman was asked how hard it is to coach considering the constant drama behind the scenes. “It’s not easy.

Herdman also addressed a February report out of New Zealand about him accepting the head-coaching position of the New Zealand men’s national team. “You come out of a World Cup, we had a lot of opportunities to look at as you do when you’ve been in a country for 11 years, 12 years and you’ve just completed a pretty grueling four-year cycle. And as your agents do, they’ll offer a lot of advice and opportunities there.

Canada looked efficient in its win over Curaçao, yet the more prominent story after the World Cup has been the men’s and women’s national team’s repeated calls for change in Canada Soccer leadership as well as their calls for transparency with the Canadian Soccer Business deal. That deal was part of the reason the men’s national team went on strike in June 2022 and refused to play a friendly against Panama.
