John Goodman admits that his SNL audition was one of the worst things he's ever done in front of people, saying 'I wrote something about 15 minutes before I went over there and, oh god, it was awful.'
John Goodman thinks his SNL audition is a low point in his career. Saturday Night Live, or SNL for short, has become a staple of late-night American TV thanks to its unique blend of skits and comedy sketches that have helped the show reach an incredible 46 seasons. Thanks to the show's success, several SNL sketches have been turned into feature films, including movie classics The Blues Brothers and Wayne's World.
With a career spanning over 40 years, the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning Goodman has become something of a household name thanks to his ever-expanding list of film and TV appearances. Goodman's career has recently gone full circle, with the revival of classic sitcom Roseanne and subsequent sequel series The Conners allowing Goodman to revisit one of his most iconic characters, Dan Conner.
Goodman's genuinely brilliant reaction to his underprepared audition is a testament to the actor's good nature and his ability to not take himself too seriously, an important factor in being a successful SNL host. With SNL already renewed for a 47th season, there's always a chance that Goodman could go after the top spot on the most hosted SNL guest list, thanks to his successful track record of being a solid host.
