We spoke with TheyClonedTyrone stars JohnBoyega & Teyonah Parris about exploring sci-fi themes in their Netflix movie and working with Jamie Foxx:
After three years shrouded in secrecy, They Cloned Tyrone is finally ready to face the world. The outrageous comedy-thriller hits Netflix on July 14, and it stars Jamie Foxx, John Boyega, and Teyonah Parris as an oddball trio who uncover a government conspiracy. First-time director Juel Taylor co-wrote the screenplay alongside Tony Rettenmaier, and the premise is an excellent setup for paranoia-filled fun.
Screen Rant spoke to Boyega and Parris about what drew them to They Cloned Tyrone, their experience filming with Jamie Foxx in Atlanta, and which conspiracy theories they believe to be cold hard facts. I tried to make this entertaining as well, and I think it was just a balanced script that offered versatility and an opportunity to explore range as well. I was keen to just sign on it and then get to it.
As far as Yo-Yo and her look, it was very much a collaboration between Francine in wardrobe, Jeremy in makeup, and Ralph, my hair stylist on getting this look. You do those things individually, and in each place, I was like, "Oooh, we don't think this is too much?" [Chuckles] And everybody was like, "Yeah, it is, but I think it's perfect.
Teyonah Parris: Yeah, UFOs [for me, too]. I'm not convinced there's no clones walking around like [the movie]. [Laughs] Like, they are cloning animals. You know this, right? That's a real thing; that's not a conspiracy. They just announced that cloned meat is a thing that is going to be in restaurants.Teyonah Parris: I don't know, I believe that there is some truth in all of these conspiraciesTeyonah Parris: [Laughs] Hey, you don't know.
