While the film is still in its pre-production stages,, just one year after the first novel in the series was published, it was announced that producer John Davis and 20th Century had bought the rights to the project. Though most expected at least the first film to premiere sometime the following years, it never did — and no other updates came until Joey’s announcement in 2020, with Netflix’s involvement.
