The high-altitude surveillance balloon has been flying across the country including nuclear weapons silos
China said the balloon had been used for scientific and meteorological research and that it regretted the “airship” strayed into US airspace.
It comes after military leaders this week considered shooting down the high-altitude surveillance balloon, which was first seen on Wednesday, before deciding against it because of the risk of falling debris. On Friday, the US defence department said the balloon poses “no physical or military threat” to civilians, and there’s no risk of any nuclear or radioactive material on board.The object is believed to have flown over the Aleutian Islands, off the coast of Alaska, and through Canada before entering the US.Joe Biden said the balloon would be ‘taken care of’.
