released a list of Jesuits it says were credibly accused of the sexual abuse of minorsThe list comes as the result of an audit conducted with the help of an independent investigator that began in 2020, said Erik Oland, the head of the Jesuit church in Canada, in a statement.The three still living priests — now in their 80s and 90s — have been removed from active ministry and are being kept under strict supervision in Toronto while the allegations are investigated, Oland said.
“We are publishing this list partly at the request of victims and victim advocacy groups to help promote healing, to recognize the magnitude of their trauma and suffering, to acknowledge their experience, and to promote justice and transparency,” said Oland. The vast majority of cases came to light after the alleged perpetrator was dead, said Oland, and some never went to criminal or civil litigation.
