On her exhilarating fifth record ‘That! Feels Good!’, Jessie Ware ups the ante on her distinctive brand of disco euphoria.
. Then, the rattle of a snare kicks in, followed by an irresistibly groovy bassline: Ware’s latest heady, hedonistic ode to late nights on the dancefloor is now in session.
That Ware still has the disco fever shouldn’t necessarily come as a surprise. Her previous, fourth recorddebuted in 2020 to some of the most effusive reviews of her then decade-long career, offering a dark and debauched vision of dancing the night away over glittering Giorgio Moroder-esque synths and thunderous Euro disco beats—a welcome tonic during the height of early lockdown.
To help achieve this, Ware worked with a number of the same collaborators as the previous album: the reliably brilliant James Ford of Simian Mobile Disco, along with Midas-touch hitmaker Clarence Coffee Jr. and South African singer-songwriter Shungudzo. The primary new addition this time around was Stuart Price, something like a demi-god in certain circles for his work with Madonna and Kylie Minogue.
