suffers from a notable laziness, where nothing bad is of any consequence. Lynsey’s brain bleed and risk of seizures would almost certainly make driving and swimming unlikely early activities and yet she cruises around and gets a job as a pool cleaner. Everything is fine. She’s not supposed to drink, but then one day she has a few beers and thinks nothing of it. She confides in James that she’s never tried weed because of her brother’s serious drug addiction but then.
Gradually, Lynsey learns exactly what you expect her to learn – that she’s always escaping, yada yada – but every time you think something is finally going to happen, it doesn’t. Not a single one of Chekhov’s guns is fired. Which leaves all of Lynsey’s difficulties feeling rather hollow. A film with this much promise has no right to be so dull, but the problem is very little happens, and the script simply isn’t clever enough to make that worthwhile.
