Britain’s Prince Andrew is stepping back from his public duties following controversy over his past friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Prince Andrew announced he will "step back from public duties for the foreseeable future" because of the continuing controversy over the British royal's past friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
"It has become clear to me over the last few days that the circumstances relating to my former association with Jeffrey Epstein has become a major disruption to my family's work and the valuable work going on in the many organisations and charities that I am proud to support," said the Duke of York in a prepared statement.
And it came on the day that Andrew's mother marked the 72nd anniversary of her marriage to Prince Philip, the Duke of Endinburgh."His suicide has left many unanswered questions, particularly for his victims, and I deeply sympathise with everyone who has been affected and wants some form of closure," the prince said.
And he said justified his decision to stay at Epstein's house in New York City for four days in 2010 during a visit to end their friendship by saying it was "a convenient place to stay."
