'The way Sen. Tuberville talks so openly about about white supremacy is just jaw dropping,' said Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut.
Tuberville made the remark during an appearance Tuesday on Bloomberg Television’s “Balance of Power” while explaining why he did not vote to confirm Gen. C.Q. Brown as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Last week, Brown sailed through his nomination by a vote of 83-11 as the first confirmation vote held since Tuberville placed a hold on military nominations in February.
“We’re looking for the best of the best to do whatever. We’re not looking for different groups, social justice groups. We don’t want to single-handedly destroy our military from within,” he said. “We all need to be one. It’s like a football team I coached. You can’t have different groups. Everybody’s got to be together to win. There’s no second place in war.”
“He is the worst of the worst,” Clyburn said. “The people of Alabama ought to be embarrassed about that.”
