Jason Blum, CEO of Blumhouse Productions, and Wan, the head of Atomic Monster, will potentially merge their companies after years of collaborating.
Jason Blum and James Wan will join forces, merging their two studios. Wan is the acclaimed director of The Conjuring and Insidious films. Blum, CEO of Blumhouse Productions, has produced horror blockbusters like the Paranormal Activity movies, this year's commercially successful The Black Phone, and Wan's Insidious movies.
The New York Times has reported that the two masters of horror, Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions and James Wan of Atomic Monster Productions, are looking to merge their studios. Both Blum and Wan are excited about the merger. The former points out that the latter's 70 - 80 percent artist and 30 - 20 percent businessman, while Wan's stated that their two energies represent a yin and yang of sorts.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY “It really allows me a bigger canvas to paint on, if you will . . . Universal is very supportive of filmmakers and brilliant at marketing. To have partners that trust you, that believe in you, that goes a long way.”What Jason Blum & James Wan Joining Forces Could Mean For Horror As stated before, this won't be the first time Blum and Wan will work together. They worked together on the Insidious films, which collectively made over $500 million worldwide.
With The Conjuring films, Wan's put out blockbusters that follow the Warren family and their spooky endeavors. The first Conjuring film is as scary as it is well-made, with cinematography and well-written tension that could appear in Oscar-bait kind of movies. Master of scares aside, Wan gives his horror films a key ingredient most horror flicks throw aside or haphazardly stuff in: a heart.
Countless doors have opened with this news. Two masters of horror joining forces will be a big feat with bigger payoffs. And now that James Wan will have access to more resources than before, now that Jason Blum has access to one of horror's most twisted, delectable minds, horror fans are in for all-season tricks and treats.
