Jamie Lee Curtis reminisces about her time working on John Carpenter's The Fog. After the success of Halloween in 1978, Carpenter directed The Fog, a ghost story about mariners who were killed 100 years ago in a shipwreck near the coast of California. Much like The Thing in 1982, The Fog wasn't well-received when it was released in 1980 but is now considered a horror classic.
Carpenter had been directing short films since the '60s, yet he only started getting major recognition after Halloween. This was around the same time Curtis began growing in popularity, who had only appeared in TV shows prior to her big break in Halloween. The beginning of Curtis' acting career centered around horror, but she has since become known as a diverse actress, appearing in a wide variety of projects over the decades.
Over the years, fans have been calling on Carpenter to make sequels to some of his most popular horror and Sci-Fi movies. A top choice is a sequel to The Thing, which originally left the fates of MacReady and Childs unknown. A sequel has yet to come to fruition, but in August 2020, it was reported that a reboot was in development. Carpenter has expressed interest in making They Live 2, which could be an intriguing return for the director given the United States' current political climate.
Since the horror genre is still a big part of Curtis' life, it's only natural for her to think back on her early acting days. Had it not been for Carpenter's Halloween, she may have never gotten a chance to prove herself as an actor. The Fog may not be her most well-known movie, but it was part of her early success, and it's clear that Curtis has fond memories of working on the film.
