DC Studios co-CEO and filmmaker James Gunn responds to rumors about Logan Lerman being cast as the new Superman for the new DC Universe.
James Gunn responds to rumors about Logan Lerman being cast as Superman for the DC Universe. As the DCEU approaches its end, DC Studios is working on the new DC Universe. Gunn and Peter Safran are together serving as the CEOs and leaders for the new franchise. In late January, the duo presented multiple Chapter 1, "Gods and Monsters," projects that are in the works, one of which is Gunn's Superman: Legacy.
As usual with a major superhero movie casting, rumors recently surfaced about who will be the next Superman. This time, Lermen was said to be suiting up as the next Man of Steel. It didn't take long for Gunn to debunk the rumor, clarifying that casting hasn't begun for Superman: Legacy. Gunn also pointed out that he doesn't know who Lerman is.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Everything We Know About James Gunn's Superman Reboot Superman: Legacy will take inspiration from Grant Morrison's iconic storyline, All-Star Superman. It won't be an adaptation as Gunn is focusing on a younger Clark Kent. That is one of the major reasons why Henry Cavill is not coming back. In terms of the new movie's casting, Gunn stated previously that there isn't even a casting director for the reboot yet.
DC Studios has described the reboot to center on "Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage." The reboot explores Superman as "the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way." Despite being a reboot, Superman: Legacy will not be an origin story. This version of Superman will reportedly be in his 20s and already know various major DC characters.
At this point, it wouldn't be shocking if the new Superman is revealed at San Diego Comic-Con this summer. Until it comes from Gunn and DC Studios, any rumor should be taken with a large grain of salt if not outright dismissed. Gunn has debunked multiple rumors before and will no doubt continue to do so whenever it happens. Hopefully, it won't be long until there is some proper Superman: Legacy news for Gunn to announce.
