Two men accused of murdering Alameda resident Donald Stanifer allegedly recorded and shared video of the body disposal with women who later took the witness stand.
OAKLAND — After an off-duty U.S. Airman reported discovering a body during a July 2020 hike through Huckleberry Preserve in Oakland, detectives from the East Bay Regional Parks Police Department made their way down a gully and identified the young man as Alameda resident Donald Stanifer.
Stanifer, 21, was stabbed to death on or about July 5, 2020. His body was discovered 10 days later, prompting a police investigation that led to the arrests of Elijah Jordan-Brooks, 22, of Pittsburg and Marquise Johnson-Simon, 23, of Oakland. Prosecutors have surmised that robbery was a motive, noting that Stanifer was found without gold rings, his grill, or his wallet.
“He showed me a video of a body. It was covered in blood. It looked like it was in the back of a seat,” the woman testified, later adding, “It was very disturbing. I got scared.” Jordan-Brooks and Johnson-Simon were linked to the homicide through GPS signals on their phone placing them in the area where Stanifer’s body was found, as well as nearby surveillance video. Two women, who knew both men, testified to having seen the video, and DNA under Stanifer’s shirt was linked to Johnson-Simon.
