President Biden warned Israel against occupying Gaza as the humanitarian crisis worsens. Crowds gathered at the Gaza-Egypt border crossing amid confusion about its possible opening.
The Israeli military is holding a number of gunmen from Gaza whom it captured in the course of the attacks on Israeli towns and bases nine days ago, officials said Monday, and the captives have provided material and information that remains classified. The Israel Defense Forces have said little about captives from the battles that followed the attack, although it announced that naval commandos had taken a senior Hamas navy commander, Muhammad Abu Ghali, on Oct. 8.
The IDF was reviewing body-camera footage taken from some of the prisoners, as well as from killed Hamas fighters, giving the army more insight into their movements, planning and communications, Hagari said. The material also adds to the gruesome and growing documentary evidence of the killings and torture carried out in the day-long rampage.
