The Gaza militant group launched its biggest sustained assault in years, prompting Israel's military to call up reservists and order retaliatory strikes.
The exchange of fire between Hezbollah and Israeli forces at the Israeli-Lebanon border appeared limited to strikes on strategic infrastructure. Hezbollah said it used a guided missile to hit a radar station and two other sites in the Israeli-occupied Shebaa Farms area. The Israeli military said it used a drone to strike Hezbollah infrastructure nearby.
There were no immediate reports of casualties. Like Hamas, Hezbollah is backed by Iran, whose leaders praised Saturday’s attack by militants from Gaza to Israel’s south, stirring concern that Israel may face fighting on at least two fronts. “We recommend Hezbollah not to come into this,” Israeli military spokesman Richard Hecht told reporters. “I don’t think they will. If they do, we are ready.”
