Opinion: Isolation gave Mark McGowan the gift of time. He would be wise not to squander it | CUhlmann

If the test of a first-rate intelligence really is the ability to hold two opposing ideas in mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function, then West Australian Premier Mark McGowan is Australia’s pre-eminent thinker.

It’s just possible that the Qantas boss reckons this is bad for business, so perhaps it’s time McGowan launched his own air wing to compete with the grounded kangaroo in not flying to other countries. One hopes that he has turned his searing intellect to solving the problem he is hiding from his people: preparing for a surge in the disease when it, inevitably, comes. Throughout this crisis McGowan has had the significant natural advantage of ruling from one of the most isolated cities on earth. This, more than his innate genius, has bought him the precious gift of time. He would be wise not to squander it.
