An Afghan branch of Islamic State has claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing in Pakistan that killed at least 54 people at a pro-Taliban party’s election rally, in one of the region’s worst attacks in recent years.

On Monday, police recorded statements from some of the wounded at a hospital in Khar, the district’s principal town. "What would I have done if he had also been martyred? Five children died in this barbaric attack, and we want to know what our children did wrong," he said.
