Environmentalism is a way of life for the monarch, who held his own pre-Cop27 summit yesterday. But how does he reconcile eco campaigning with a cosseted lifestyle and penchant for private jets? Is King Charles as green as we think? 🌱 ⤵️

This plays into a long-running narrative about Charles’s need to travel not just with a few home comforts, but the greater part of his actual home, with a tour rider that would make Elton John look austere.
The orthodoxy is that organic production systems more accurately reflect the true cost of production, and that is fine if you can afford the extra cost. Similarly, installing heat pumps , ploughing land using Suffolk punch horses instead of fossil fuel-guzzling tractors, is a fine way of dropping your carbon footprint if you have the cash to spare.
Poor communication is probably Charles’s biggest eco failing. This has been the case all along.
