Obituary: Irwin Jacobs, a feared corporate raider from Minneapolis, stayed true to his working-class roots. Waiters at the Four Seasons brought him ketchup, reluctantly.

He was often called “Irv the Liquidator.” Irwin Jacobs, a Minneapolis investor with a keen eye for bargains, made his national reputation in the 1980s as a corporate raider by buying stakes in companies including Walt Disney Co. and RCA and selling them for a quick profit.

Mr. Jacobs, a corporate cost-cutter with a weakness for monogrammed cuffs and Rolls-Royce cars, also operated and expanded companies, including a maker of leisure boats, a TV-shopping business and a door-to-door seller of spices.
