The Anti-Defamation League, a U.S. non-profit, has long named Iran as a premier backer of global anti-Semitism.
The controversy derives from a poster, released earlier this week, that surfaced on the website of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei. It depicts armed soldiers and civilians in celebration, standing on military vehicles and waving the Palestinian flag just outside the Dome of the Rock in East Jerusalem. An image of the now-deceased Quds Force leader, Qassem Soleimani, whom the U.S. killed in a drone strike earlier this year, is prominently shown.
Khamenei's threats to carry out"The Final Solution" against Israel bring to mind the Nazi"Final Solution" plan to annihilate the Jewish People. In the tweet, Zarif said it was"disgusting" that Western commentators were criticizing the referendum poster considering, as he puts it, the West's complicity in the Holocaust.
