Canada’s maritime provinces, including Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and the broad gulf of the St. Lawrence River, are popular cruise itineraries. But if that's not your style, you can follow this Alaska couple's example by road-tripping instead.

When Canada finally opened its borders to Americans for vacation travel, Brady dusted off her notes and started planning. She likes to do her homework before embarking on a trip. “I look at Fodor’s travel forums, look at reviews and search the internet,” she said. “The biggest surprise on our car cruise was the driving distances,” said Johnson. “On the day we traveled to Quebec City, we drove 13 hours.”
Lyon Johnson and Pat Brady discovered an award-winning distillery in Niagara Falls called Limited Distillery. The Unfiltered Gin was the foundation for their Happy Hour each evening on their “car cruise”. . “We picked up some nice cocktail fixings, so we could pop the hatch-back and have our own happy hour,” he said. “There was beautiful weather — so people were jealous of our set-up.”
The bikes stayed in the rack in St. John. After some nice hikes, they boarded a powerful ferry that could cut through the big tides to reach Digby, on the northern shore of Nova Scotia. From there, they made their way to the town of Lunenburg on the southern shore. “Lunenburg was the start of the really good seafood,” said Brady.

Clearing, cooling over mainland AlaskaA winter storm draped Anchorage in a thick blanket of snow Tuesday and Wednesday, and the city was still dealing with the aftermath on Thursday. Amounts of snow varied from 14 inches at the airport to 29 inches on the east side and hillside areas of the city. A plow-out for the city has been declared, which usually takes about three days.
