Christian Dior’s iconic 1946 collection was considered a breath of fresh air in a postwar world. Following a time marred with excessive grief, Dior’s glamorous and feminine designs injected the right amount of fantasy so desperately needed. At the opening of the “Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams” exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum last night, that same magic was revisited and certainly felt once again, 75 years later.
“Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams” is a glamorous and thorough retrospective journey through the eras of the iconic fashion house. Dior’s signature New Look introduces guests to the exhibition, followed by an army of the designer’s creations from 1946 to his final year in 1957. Afterward are glimpses of collections by his predecessors. Yves Saint Laurent’s collection, considered provocative at the time, led this wing.
