American Conservative Union chairman Matt Schlapp has maintained that the sexual battery allegations against him are untrue. But he's also offered to settle, sources say.
, who filed the lawsuit against Schlapp and his wife, Mercedes Schlapp, in January—turned it down and countered with a substantially higher sum. Schlapp did not accept the counterproposal, the sources said.
In a statement to The Daily Beast on behalf of the Schlapps, their publicist Mark Corallo denied that a settlement was offered. Asked about the veracity of the assertion that “there was no settlement offer,” Huffman’s attorney, Tim Hyland, told The Daily Beast that the claim was “categorically false.”
