On Tuesday evening, KIRO 7 received new footage showing the moment a ground service agent managed to steal a Horizon Air airplane from Sea-Tac Airport in 2018.
Surveillance video showed Richard “Beebo” Russell going through security at the airport around 2:30 p.m., which was about five hours before he stole an empty Horizon Air Bombardier Q400.For 18 minutes, Russell made several attempts to attach the tow but once he attached it, several minutes passed until he appeared on video in the cockpit.
Russell managed to move the plane toward the runway before he unhooked the tow vehicle while the plane was still running.Russell then runs toward the plane, pulls down the stairs, hops in the cockpit, and stops the plane as he slowly rolls out of view and in the line of takeoff. Several different surveillance videos showed Russell’s take-off, which went smoothly, while other pilots sounded the alarm to alert air traffic control.And it’s just a single, single pilot in there,” a second pilot said.
