Initial results Tuesday showed Sen. Lisa Murkowski narrowly leading in the primary race to keep her seat and Gov. Mike Dunleavy with a lead in his race. In these pick-one primaries, the top four vote-getters will advance to the general election on Nov. 8.

Mike Dunleavy with a lead in his race.with 43.7% of ballots cast to Tshibaka’s 40.4%, withDemocrat Pat Chesbro is third, with 6.2% of the vote. Republican Buzz Kelley is in fourth with 2.2%.
Dunleavy is followed by independent former governor Bill Walker and Democratic former state representative Les Gara, who each have about 22% of the vote.Dunleavy, Walker and Gara were expected to land in the top three for the gubernatorial race. Pierce and Wasilla Rep. Christopher Kurka meanwhile vied for fourth place. Both candidates say they are running to the right of Dunleavy.
In a statement late Tuesday night, Walker said he believes he and Drygas are still on track to amass enough general election votes to defeat Dunleavy. Volunteers explain the double sided ballots at the Alaska State Museum polling place on Aug. 16, 2022 in Juneau.
