Montgomery Public Schools announced that they have received preliminary ACAP summative reading test scores and have seen an increase in second and third-graders.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -
MPS says that the district has seen a 4% increase in its second graders and a 27% increase in its third graders. “I’m extremely proud of our students, teachers, principals, and staff. Their hard work and dedication this year paid off, and I look forward to our continuous growth. In addition, we’re extremely grateful to our parents and community stakeholders for their encouragement and support,” said Dr. Melvin J. Brown.
Overall, the preliminary ACAP reading score for 2024 has shown that 66% of the district’s second graders performed on or above their grade level. Additionally, 82% of the district’s third graders have performed on or above grade level. MPS stated that this shows that these students have a sufficient understanding of the reading content standards based on their current grade level.
The increase in the second graders is up 4% from 2023, where 62% performed on or above grade level and up 27% with the third graders.
