The IOC’s executive board wants to add breakdancing to the Olympic platform in time for the 2024 Summer Games in Paris

By Rick Maese Rick Maese Reporter covering a variety of subjects, including health and safety, Olympics, legal and political issues in sports Email Bio Follow March 27 at 4:50 PM Looking to attract a younger audience, the International Olympic Committee is ready to spin the menu of sports offerings on its head, inching closer to adding break dancing to the 2024 Summer Games in Paris.
“They contribute to make the program of the Games more gender-balanced, more youthful and more urban,” IOC President Thomas Bach said at a news conference Tuesday. “These four sports also offer the opportunity to connect with the young generation there.” Bach said IOC officials will monitor the proposed Paris sports through 2020 “to see how they perform, to see how they manage their sport, to look at the governance, to look at the integrity of their competitions, to look at the referring and judging system and so on.”
