Wanda White, the co-chair of Pictou County Pride, led chants as people marched down Provost Street calling for acceptance and support. She also highlighted the importance of having a strong community in rural areas to showcase the presence of queer people.The Pride march began with sign making. Participants flocked to picnic tables near the river with poster board and markers to design their signs.
Following sign making, Pictou County Pride Co-chair Wanda White called on everyone to come together and show Pictou County that they're queer, they're here, and they're going to make their presence known. The big theme of the Pride March was showing that queer people exist in rural communities. Many of the signs carried by participants advocated for peace and solidarity with the community as they crossed the bridge to Carmichael Park. Angela Capobianco
