On International Women’s Day, Vogue100 and Livia Firth hosted an intimate luncheon and speaker series to toast a group of women moving towards a more sustainable future. As a longtime activist and founder of global sustainability consultancy Eco-Age, Firth is committed to keeping human rights and the environment top of mind during a week dedicated to fashion and film.
The education-filled afternoon took place at Harriet’s Rooftop located in the 1 Hotel West Hollywood, which offers sprawling views of downtown Los Angeles and, for the occasion, was outfitted with bountiful bouquets by Flowerboy Project. The Venice-based floral shop sources its flowers from local markets every morning.sustainability editor, Tonne Goodman, kicked off the lineup of speakers, including Iranian-American climate activist Sophia Kianni, co-founder and CEO of Lucara Diamond Eira M.
“Sustainability is about being global feminists and thinking about the people who make our clothes,” Firth explained. The sustainable fashion landscape is so complex, and using recycled materials is only a part of the larger picture. Working with the people that are stitching and sourcing our clothes is where sustainability starts.
On the plant-based menu, a colorful mezze platter was served family-style before guests enjoyed a tomato shakshuka and harissa rubbed romanesco cauliflower paired with herbed couscous. For dessert, a platter filled with delicious cookies and truffles was the perfect fix for a sweet tooth. Following the luncheon, the floral arrangements around the room were broken down into personal bouquets for guests to take home with them.
