Guard Isaiah Garcia, who was indicted, no longer works for the Sheriff's Office, Hays County says.
The Hays County Sheriff’s Office said that Wright attempted to escape the hospital. However, a lawyer for Wright’s family has questioned law enforcement’s narrative of the shooting.
Garcia worked as a corrections officer for Hays County since 2018. In response to the indictment, the Hays County Sheriff’s Office said that Garcia is “no longer employed” with the agency. The Texas Rangers investigated the case, and the grand jury reviewed the results. Among the evidence presented was video captured by Garcia’s body-worn camera, according to the district attorney.
“After hearing the evidence, the grand jury determined that the offense of Deadly Conduct was the most appropriate charge,” Hays County Criminal District Attorney Kelly Higgins said in a statement.
