IMF: Global economy to see weakest growth since 1990 as chances of 'hard landing' surge IMF economy
The International Monetary Fund trimmed its 2023 global growth outlook and updated its medium-term expectations to the weakest in three decades, issuing"hard landing" warnings if interest rates remain higher for longer.
The IMF also said that global growth looks to be at 3% in 2028 - the lowest medium-term outlook since the WEO was first published in 1990. This is why risks to the outlook are"heavily skewed to the downside, with the chances of a hard landing having risen sharply," the IMF warned. Bank failures in the U.S. are the consequences of a sharp rise in interest rates, the report pointed out. And that's one of the primary reasons why the IMF is now stressing the"hard landing" scenario.
