ANTIOCH TOWNSHIP, Illinois — A 79-year-old man upset over his neighbor’s use of a leaf blower went into the man’s yard and shot him in the head, killing him, police say.
Ettore Lacchei has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the April 12 shooting death of William Martys, 59,from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Lacchei is being held in jail as he awaits a court appearance. According to the sheriff’s office, Lacchei was using the leaf blower in his own yard at about 7:35 p.m. when Martys approached. The two men began arguing when Lacchei shot Martys in the head, authorities say. Martys was pronounced dead at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Ill.
A firearm was found near the property line of Lacchei’s home, the sheriff’s office says. Lacchei was arrested without incident on Tuesday. The sheriff’s office says Lacchei had “various perceived grievances with Martys.”Ralph Yarl, 16, was shot and critically wounded when he rang the wrong doorbell while attempting to pick up his 11-year-old twin brothers from a neighbor’s home in Kansas City, Missouri.
